Research Appeal
IBS Research Appeal is a registered charity
which funds a research programme into the causes of, and treatments for, Irritable
Bowel Syndrome. The charity and the research programme are based at the Central Middlesex Hospital, London, England.
Leading gastroentorologist, Professor David Silk,MD,FRCP is the programme's Director
of Research. The charity raises funding by sales and subscriptions to its quarterly
magazine, 'IBS Bulletin and Review of International Research', by sales of
Professor Silk's acclaimed books on the subject, and from charitable donations and
sponsorships from individuals and from some of the major pharmaceutical companies
in the field.
The charity sponsors research programmes into various aspects of the condition,
with teams of research fellows working on projects designed to increase our
understanding of this debilitating condition. Leading officers of the charity
include:
Professor David Silk, MD, FRCP - Research Director
Tim Brooke-Taylor - The Charity's President.
Erica Jankovich - Our Resident dietician.

Although the clinic occasionally takes on specific cases on reference through
a registered medical practitioner, this is not generally the case as the charity's
main thrust is to sponsor and carry out research into IBS. Consequently we
would ask visitors to this site not to seek out direct contact with Professor Silk
or his team. In the 'Useful Addresses' section of this site can be found information
about self-help groups which have contacted the charity and can be approached
for further advice and assistance.
The contents of this site are for information

The IBS Research Appeal strongly urges visitors to this site to take professional
medical advice before embarking on any medication, therapy, diet, practice
or other treatment in connection with their digestive problems.
